Architecture at Zero
This was a junior level undergraduate design studio class, at Pennsylvania College of Technology, taught by Geoffrey Campbell in fall 2017. This project is to design a net zero energy bayside community education and visitors center. These two buildings are located on the property of Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies (RTC) in Tiburon, California. These buildings will be used by school groups, teachers, students, and the general public. The visitor’s center will have interactive spaces and fish tanks. These buildings will still be connected to the energy grid, but use many renewable energy sources to reduce the overall building energy. This site is along the San Francisco Bay. We had building restrictions of where we could place the buildings and how close the bay they could be. The main building, “Bayside Visitor’s Center(BVC)” I placed on the top of the hill to be able to take in the views. The second building, “Aquatic Education and Recreation(AER)” was placed on the tarmac so they would be able to store there water equipment.
